What Drives Rob Robertson?

Why do I get out of bed in the morning?

My core purpose is to help others build inner trust and make life easier by drawing on my own inner struggles. Total trust in self, our inner wisdom, and understanding the energy behind flow- the peak-performance state when we are constantly at our best in life, sport, and business. Often, this helps clients move from self-doubt and a stressed state of having no time and feeling overwhelmed to high productivity and a sense of complete trust and true inner freedom. ‘Flow’ is being ‘in the zone’ when life, sport, and business become easy due to empowered self-trust, leading to a more rewarding, high-productivity, passionate, and successful life.

Why the Self-Doubt Struggles?

Having grown up with massive self-doubt, which was, for 10 years, covered up with positive thinking, sport was always the barometer of my mental strength or lack of it! I often found in business that I could ‘fake it till you make it,’ yet I would see a notable drop in performance under pressure in sport.

As a result, my passion is to help others avoid those struggles by using both the inner emotional and technological tools I have enjoyed to build far greater mental and emotional strength and resilience. To achieve higher performance in sport and business, with the inner trust to feel good about who we are, all powered by healthy self-esteem. Hence, I get very excited about how mental skills and Emotional Fitness can help people progress in sports adn business results.

All based on the practical tools and evidence of what has worked for me to get free from the mental struggles and abuse that I have had.

Why the Tech and AI Fascination?

Growing up in school, I was not one of the cool kids. Hence, self-doubt was a big factor in feeling like I didn’t fit in. Therefore, I loved time at home on my Vic-20 computer. As a result, I learned to program in machine language as a high school kid. Saving everything to the tape drive, then later a floop disk drive.

Then, after my Degree majoring in computer science at Lincogn University, NZ the technology led me some eyars later to write my first HTML-coded website, which was in 1999.

Always good with technology, I launched my tech company, Unboxed OS, in late 2013. This started by building a WordPress website for a coaching client. This coaching business dates back to 2001 and combines technology to shift the way business owners and teams think.

Unboxed OS in 2015 was a one-person band, the year  I started moving people to the cloud. I started migrating business owners to the cloud with Google Apps for Work, which was renamed G Suite in 2016 and rebranded as Google Workspace in 2020. By then, I knew all the DNS settings and had become a nice nerd; I loved being a computer nerd.

By 2019, it was more digital strategy, CRM and marketing automation setup, along with site cloud productivity training for teams. The point of difference was that, as an executive coach, I always understood the vision, purpose and core business drivers before giving technology strategy advice. As is too often the case, IT companies that are not vendor-neutral attempt to sell their stack with little strategic business understanding.

How?

Using the Inner Trust Map tools, we define each client’s business purpose and vision. Then we define the strategy and actions to fulfil this purpose and vision. This, for individual sporting clients, may be gaining greater awareness about the interplay and power of their head and heart, building better balance and self-belief, and unlocking more passion and success ‘flow.

When this work is with a corporate or sports team,  we use the Inner Trust Map tools so that each person can collaborate and share their intentions and goals with the team in the cloud. They share the non-personal aspects of their dreams, which they are comfortable sharing with the team, helping build a shared focus with more supportive self-responsibility and teamwork. With all the goals shared, the last part is tracking results in the Inner Trust Map for natural self-accountability, with the team able to view the team’s results. They are supported by the right tools to build inner trust in a culture where people are in flow, rather than trying to control outcomes.

What?

Clients are supported through executive coaching; in sport, this is mental and emotional skills coaching, delivered through in-person or online training, facilitation, or mentoring. Success and desired outcomes vary greatly for each client, yet often the outcome is greater trust: internal trust in self, team, and technology, and trust in leadership. This is much more than emotional intelligence; it is Emotional Fitness, an internal knowing, an inner trust of self. This is part of my work as a CEO mentor and executive coach, empowering people to feel good about who they are and supported by technology within a team culture of greater unity, coherence, and trust.

Inspiration

The following video, Simon Sinek’s TED Talk, and his book Start with Why have all had a massive impact on my work. They are a significant inspiration that has helped shape my work with leaders and teams, which is my personal purpose: to build greater trust in people, teams and technology. This is my lived journey from self-doubt to self-trust, and why my drive is to help athletes and leaders not have the doubt I did, to understand the principles to live with predictable synchronicity and flow using both AI and the knowledge of the Synchronicity Grid.
