As Warkworth Tennis Club Captain and Sports Mental Skills Coach, I recorded this video after several questions on how to win more matches with better mental skills and Emotional Fitness.
A powerful example to illustrate how pressure can cause mistakes was Cameron Norrie in the ASB Classic final this year. Up in the third set, he started making uncharacteristic mistakes. That he was so emotional after the match is evidence he wanted the win too much. Wanting the win so badly conflicted with his outer game reality and caused him to tighten up. I explain this theory in the following video. This is similar to the tennis interclub example shared in the video. One of the keys to being in flow, or ‘in the zone’ is to set your goals and then detach from them, to keep the focus on your inner game and listening to your inner body.
