Last week I made this submission about Society 5.0 to the Productivity Commission of New Zealand after their inspirational idea of looking at Technological Change and the Future of Work.
Last year I wrote about Society 5.0, the more connected world.
Society 5.0 originated in Japan and refers to a future society shaped by digital technologies. It is envisioned as a highly intelligent, technologically advanced, and sustainable society, focusing on human well-being and quality of life.
The Society 5.0 concept is based on the historical stages of human development, from hunting and gathering societies (Society 1.0) to agricultural societies (Society 2.0), industrial societies (Society 3.0), and information societies (Society 4.0). Society 5.0 represents the next stage of this development, where technology is used to solve social challenges and create a more harmonious society.
Some of the key features of Society 5.0 include artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data to drive innovation and solve complex problems. This could include using smart cities to improve transportation, energy efficiency, and public safety; the development of new medical technologies to improve healthcare; and using advanced automation to improve productivity and reduce environmental impact.
While Society 5.0 is still a concept rather than a reality, it’s an exciting vision of the future of how we will transform the way we live, work, and interact with each other.
